How to handle personal stress caused by utterly incompetent and lazy co-workers?

My advice is this – limit yourself to specific time when you vent that stress to your friends and family. My husband and I complain to each other about work for one hour only. Rather than bottling up my anger and taking it out on him, I explain my problems. He does the same and we sympathize with each other. It’s bad to bring your work problems home, but if you can’t help it because it’s that bad, put boundaries on it. You may even get a fresh perspective on things.

You can control none of this. The only thing you can control is your reactions to what is going on around you. You don’t know why these people were hired, you won’t control whether they grow and expand or remain where they are or drift off or get fired.

You have no way of knowing beforehand whether or not it will be beneficial for you. It’s similar to seeing a psychologist : for some people, it makes wonders, for some people, it doesn’t do much. However, career coaches are professionals, and if you cannot solve an orientation problem yourself, they are the best suited people to help you.
You will only know how beneficial it was when you will have a new job. If you are happier, it was beneficial, otherwise, it probably wasn’t.

How is a line drawn between things that you do on that computer for the company vs. for yourself? If you work on other projects off the clock, can the company make any claim to those? Does the computer have to comply with all corporate standards & policies, including antivirus, web filtering, remote scanning for unapproved software, etc.? Who owns the software you’re using? Who’s responsible for the licensing?
You are going to have to wait a couple weeks before you can make any kind of pitch to get a usable computer. Otherwise, you come across as the new guy who wants everything “just so”, and that will not earn you any points.

Django (which is a framework, not a language) would be something to learn in order to create a back-end. So, you could even combine the two, building some application powered by a Django back-end and a JavaScript(-heavy) front end.

The true magic with PHP is that there are different frameworks that makes your code very nice to look at; while also making your job very much easier. (little plug for Laravel ;))

If Facebook was about to be developed today, probably it would not be developed in PHP, but that does not make the language irrelevant at all.
