Churches usually work off of donations. As part of the religion you are supposed to donate to the church. Churches are tax free, I believe, because they are non-profit. They are not designed to offer a service to make money, they are a place of worship where people can go and practice their religion.
Generally, Churches make money from member works and income revenue, indirectly known as offerings and tithing. These form of church money making stream is mostly found in Africa according to recent research and report published on the internet.
Although the original designation and structure of the church is built for non-profit as they do not pay taxes to the government. But the church can make money via these streams as above mentioned, also commonly known as tax (within this area).
