The value of money is its purchasing power, that is to say; what a unit of the currency can buy. A clear example to comprehend the value of money is by understanding this simple scenario;
Assuming you find yourself in a desert with a bag full of money, but you are thirsty of water, to a near dead experience. Although you have a bag full of money, it is useless, if you cannot use it to buy drinking water, and that is because, in a desert, where you find yourself, there is no one who sells drinkable water. In this scenario, the money has absolutely no value.
Whereas someone in the city with just a single banknote can easily buy water to drink, thereby making that one banknote more valuable than the bag of money you are holding in a desert.
